Update: Sleep study number two

So, I had my sleep study last night at Rush Medical Center here in Chicago. Let me tell ya, it wasn’t pretty. First of all, I had gone out the night before and was certainly over served at some point and needless to say I was hung over the next morning. The folks at Rush had advised me in their standard sleep study patient guidelines not to nap the day of your study. While I didn’t nap I damn sure slept in. So, having slept in until around 1 PM that day and having a grande caramel machiatto I wasn’t quite ready to fall asleep that night. Nevertheless, after beginning my study around 10:30 PM, and tossing and turning with all kinds of electrodes and junk attached to me, while in what might possibly have been the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept in, I finally got to sleep around 12:30 or so. Oh, and let me just list the crap they attach to you: 5 electrodes attached to your head, two attached to your chin, one breathing monitor (detects breathing or lack thereof via your mouth and nose), two electrodes on your back, two on your chest, one electrode on each leg and an oxygen saturation monitor on your middle finger. It’s a wonder I fell asleep at all. Anyway, I should know something about this study in 5 to 10 business days. Hopefully, they’ll figure something out…

Another sleep study

I just got back from the Dr.’s office today and I have yet another (second) sleep study on the 7th of January. Hopefully my obstructive sleep apnea is gone but I have a feeling my central sleep apnea is still hangin’ around. I’ll post an update here after the study is over.

Sleep Apnea… revisited

So… if you’ve followed this blog at all you’d know that I had surgery a while back to cure my sleep apnea, which as it turns out, is complex sleep apnea. The surgery doesn’t seem to have done much good. I think the most successful portion of it was my turbinate reduction surgery. That certainly made an improvement in my nasal passages but still hasn’t done much for my sleep. So, I go back to the doctor (this time a neurologist) on the 3rd of January to see if he can make anything out of this…

Compiling Flex with FlashBuild and FlashDevelop

Just read this post from the Pasz.com Blog that a co-worker of mine sent to me. It involves compiling Flex swfs using FlashDevelop and the FlashBuild plugin. This is a very nice alternative if you don’t want to fork up the extra cash to buy FlexBuilder 2 or you don’t use Eclipse.

Essentially what the KewBee Plugin Switcher does is allow you to switch between virtually any number of different versions of the Flash Player for either Internet Explorer or Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape. This has come in quite handy recently when my group was attempting to debug a Flash application for a client. This tool made it possible to for us to eliminate the possibility the bug was related to different versions of the Flash Player. This will undoubtedly become a part of every Flash developer’s arsenal of utilities.

This is my first post here and I thought I’d share a little bit of info about my tonsil surgery I had recently.

Holy Lord that was a painful surgery. I thought it was going to be a cake walk but I was beyond wrong. It was some of the worst pain I’d ever experienced. I had my tonsils removed and the majority (if not all) of my uvula removed. I had this done because there was about a 50 percent chance it would alleviate my sleep apnea condition I’ve had since I was about 15. I won’t know if the surgery was successful until another couple of weeks or so. If it was successful then I should begin sleeping MUCH better than I have in 15 years. If not, it’s back to the old CPAP. BOOOO…

Anyway, I’ll keep this updated with my progress and let you know if this painful procedure worked.
